Croatian tourism to be advertised on BBC, CNN, Euronews, Eurosport this springCroatian tourism will be advertised on BBC World News and Euronews from mid-March to the end of May this year, after its promotion has been made on CNN and Eurosport for several years, the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) said recently. Sea water at Croatian beaches excellent for swimming The results of the first sea water quality tests undertaken this season show that the water at 1,144 beaches along the Croatian Adriatic coast is of excellent quality, bathing conditions are good at 16 beaches and satisfactory at nine beaches, Croatia's Ministry of Environmental Protection, Physical Planning and Construction, said on Tuesday. Testing was conducted from 1 to 29 May. The results are available on the ministry's website at www.mzopu.hr. The testing of sea bathing water quality is conducted throughout the summer season.

Minister Bajs expects results of this year's tourist season to be as last year's or slightly lowerThe government commission coordinating and monitoring tourism-related activities in Croatia said on Saturday it expected the results of this year"s tourist season to be the same as last year"s or slightly lower. "We hope to achieve results that will be the same as last year"s or slightly lower, which, considering the present global economic situation, would be a success," Tourism Minister Damir Bajs said. Bajs also said that this year most tourists were staying in camps and in private accommodation, while the number of those staying in hotels was lower than last year.

Croatian tourism minister and Chinese ambassador hold talks Chinese nationals with valid Schengen visas can travel to Croatia without any additional visas from 1 April to 31 October provided that their visits are organised in groups, Croatian Tourism Minister Damir Bajs said at a news conference in Zagreb on Tuesday after his meeting with Chinese Ambassador in Croatia, Lianqi Wu. Bajs recalled that the Croatian government had recently annulled visa requirements for Chinese visitors with valid Schengen visas who would like to tour Croatia from 1 April to 31 October 2010. The Croatian minister and the Chinese ambassador today discussed the importance of economic cooperation between their countries, notably in tourist trade.

Three millionth passenger arrives at Zagreb airport

The three millionth passenger arrived at Zagreb's Franjo Tudjman airport on Tuesday and it is expected that by the end of the year, more than 3.1 million passengers will have arrived at the airport, which is 10% to 12% more than last year, Zagreb International Airport (MZLZ) Management Board President Jacques Feron said.

9.66 mln bed nights in September, up 11.5% y-on-y

In September this year 1.87 million tourists stayed in commercial accommodation facilities in Croatia which is 14.5% more than in the corresponding period last year and generated 9.66 million overnight stays, up 11.5% more than last year the State Bureau of Statistics (DZS) reported on Tuesday. In the first nine months of this year there were 74.6 million overnight stays in commercial facilities which is an increase of 8.6% on the year. Foreign tourists accounted for 93.1% of these bed nights, which is 9.2% more than last year while domestic tourists accounted for 6.9% or an increase of 1.6% in the first nine months of 2016.

British market important for Croatia's tourist trade

The Croatian tourism sector perceives the British market as strategically important and that market has been the seventh largest according to tourist turnover in Croatia, with great potential for further growth, Croatian National Tourism Board (HTZ) director Ratomir Ivicic said on Monday in London where he was attending the World Travel Market. World Travel Market London is a business-to-business event presenting a diverse range of destinations and industry sectors to UK and international travel professionals. The event, now in its 37th year, generates more than £2.5 billion of travel industry contracts.
