Czech Oscar-winning director to make promotional films about Croatia Czech film-maker, theatre director and screenwriter Jiri Menzel will most probably direct a series of promotional films about Croatia which should be used for advertising Croatia's national tourist trade in 2010. This Czech Oscar-winner and Croatian Tourism Minister Damir Bajs informed a news conference recently that they had in principle agreed on making promotional films for Croatian tourism. Menzel said that this would be a very interesting adventure for him, as he had not made films of this kind so far.

Hotel sector sees profitability decline in 2009, expects growth in 2010 Profitability in the Croatian hotel sector continued to fall in 2009, and the decrease is estimated to reach 15 percent by the end of this year. Despite these trends and forecasts about the tough 2010 year, 35 leading Croatian hotel companies expect a 5-percent rise in demand and overnight stays and a 10-percent rise in their income next year. These estimates, based on studies and analyses conducted by the Institute for Tourism and the Croatian Association of Hoteliers were presented by an Institute researcher, Neven Ivandic, at a forum of hoteliers held within the Croatian Tourism Days in Bol on the island of Brac on 21-23 October.

PM Kosor congratulates tourism sector for well done job this season Addressing the closing ceremony of the Croatian Tourism Days in Bol on the island of Brac on Friday evening, Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor described the tourist trade as one of pillars of the Croatian economy, as evidenced by the last tourist season.
She called for even more efforts to be invested in preparations for the next season.
The premier congratulated Tourism Minister Damir Bajs and the head of the Croatian National tourist Board (HTZ), Niko Bulic, and all other employees in this sector for what she said a well-done job this season.

Minister says tourist season successful with 55.2 mln nights from January through SeptemberCroatian Tourism Minister Damir Bajs and the director of the National Tourist Board's main office, Niko Bulić, on Saturday presented the results of this year's tourist season through September, stressing they were successful. The tourist season, which in terms of nights through September has reached 96 percent of the record tourism turnover of 2008, is still giving results which are more than good, says a Tourism Ministry report which Bajs and Bulić presented at Plitvice Lakes National Park. There were 55.2 million nights from January through September this year, up nearly half a million from the same time period in 2008, and this September alone saw a record high 6.2 million nights, it was said.

Croatian tourism minister issues message ahead of World Tourism Day Tourism Minister Damir Bajs issued a message on Saturday to mark this year’s World Tourism Day, which is observed on September 27.

Noting that this year's theme was "Tourism - Celebrating Diversity", Bajs expressed hope that all areas of Croatia would become aware of how their diversity was valuable and interesting.

Fortunate for us, diversity is at the core of tourism's appeal and it is its future, Bajs said, adding that apart from the city walls of Dubrovnik and Plitvice Lakes, Croatians should also take pride in the plains of Slavonia as their breadbasket, the craggy mountains inland from the coast and an invaluable wealth of gastronomy and customs.
