The Croatian Tourism Days, an annual conference of tourism workers, started at the Elaphusa Bluesun Hotel in Bol on the island of Brac on Wednesday evening.

Opening the event on Wednesday, Minister Bajs said that one should be careful with estimates for next year because 2010 would not be an easy year either for the global or for the national tourism industry.

Croatia's tourism results in 2009 were praised by representatives of international organizations and institutions, including the executive director of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Frederic Pierret, who said that with a 3 percent drop in foreign arrivals in the first seven months of this year, Croatia had slightly better results than the rest of Europe, which saw a drop in foreign arrivals of around 7 percent.

The event was wrapped up on Friday evening with an award giving ceremony. (Hina)
