Travel agencies join appeal to resolve tourism labour shortage
The UHPA and UPA associations of Croatian travel agencies on Monday joined demands for resolving the labour shortage in the tourist season, proposing that workers who repeatedly refuse jobs be stricken from Croatian Employment Service records.
Such workers are preventing the hiring of those who want to work, one of the associations, UHPA said. The labour shortage puts the opening of some establishments at risk and of the quality of service in hotels and bars and restaurants they said, adding that deteriorated service would impact travel agencies too.
UHPA president Tomislav Fain said professional associations supported the government's efforts to hire pensioners on a part-time basis and to increase quotas for foreign workers.
He added, however, that this would not fully resolve the problem as there is a shortage of more than 5,000 workers. (Hina)
