Tourism results in first 9 months at 92% of arrivals, 97% of overnight stays of 2019

In the first nine months of 2022, Croatia recorded 17.2 million tourist arrivals and 99.7 million overnight stays, which is 92% of arrivals and 97% of overnight stays recorded in the same period of the record-breaking year 2019, and 37% more arrivals and 24% more overnight stays than in the same period of 2021.

Data from the eVistor system, which include tourist turnover in commercial and non-commercial accommodation as well as boat rental data, show that of the total number of this year's overnight stays, 88.2 million were generated by foreign and 11.5 million by domestic guests, the Tourism and Sports Ministry said.

The largest number of overnight stays was reported in Istria County, 28.5 million, followed by Split-Dalmatia County with 18.6 million overnight stays, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County with 17.5 million overnight stays, Zadar County with 14.5 million, Dubrovnik-Neretva County with 7.4 million, and Šibenik-Knin County with 6.5 million overnight stays.

As for individual destinations, the largest number of overnight stays was made in Rovinj, 4 million, Dubrovnik, 3.4 million, Poreč, 3.3 million, Medulin, 2.9 million, and Split, 2.8 million.

The largest number of overnight stays was generated by guests from Germany, 24 million, followed by Slovenes, with 9.7 million overnight stays, and Austrians, with 7.7 million overnight stays, as well as Poles (6.5 million), the Czech (5.9 million), Italians (4 million), Britons (3.4 million), Slovakians (3.3 million) and the Dutch (3.2 million).

Broken down by type of accommodation, the largest number of overnight stays was reported by owners of apartments (38.2 million), hotels (20.5 million) and campsites (20.3 million).

In September 2022, 2.2 million arrivals and 12.9 million overnights stays were reported, increases of 16% and 7% respectively compared to September 2021.
