The number of tourists staying in Croatian campsites in the first half of 2018 rose by 7% compared to the corresponding period of 2017, and their overnight stays went up by 5%, the Croatian Camping Union (KUH) says. Most of the guests were Germans, Slovenians and Austrians, and the number of Poles and Czechs was on the increase.

KUH director Adriano Palman told Hina that in the last ten years a lot had been invested in the campsites to improve their quality and expand their range of services.

In 2008, only 9% of the campsites were rated four-star, whereas currently 37% are five- or four-star facilities, Palman said.

He cited an analysis by Germany's automobile club ADAC showing that, with a daily campsite price of 40.92 euro per family, Croatia ranks fifth most expensive in Europe.

This price is 3.3% higher than in 2017, but is still considerably lower than the average daily price in Switzerland (EUR 46.78 per family) or Italy (EUR 46.35).

According to KUH figures, there are 704 campsites throughout the country which can accommodate 253,000 guests. About 200 of them can accommodate 1,000 guests, while a majority can cater for 35 persons.

Following global trends, Croatia recently got its first glamping campsite: Arena One 99 Glamping near the Istrian city of Pula.
