Croatia sees considerable increases in tourist arrivals and bed nights in September

A total of 1.9 million tourists visited Croatia in September 2021 and generated 12 million bed nights, which is 245% more arrivals and 147% more bed nights than in September 2020 and 81% of the number of arrivals and 94% of the number of bed nights registered in September 2019, the Ministry of Tourism and Sport said on Friday.

Of the 12 million bed nights registered in September 2021, 10.8 million were generated by foreign visitors and 1.2 million by domestic visitors, the ministry said, citing preliminary data from the eVistor and eCrew registration systems.

The largest number of bed nights was reported by Istria County (3.8 million), followed by Split-Dalmatia County (2.3 million), Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (2.1 million), Zadar County (1.5 million), Dubrovnik-Neretva County (903,000) and Šibenik-Knin County (807,000). The most popular destinations were Dubrovnik, Split, Rovinj, Zagreb and Poreč.

The largest number of tourists came from Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom. They mostly stayed in privately rented accommodation, campsites and hotels.

"After the excellent summer months, Croatia has continued to achieve excellent results in the post-summer season as well. With more than 12 million bed nights in September, we reached as much as 94 percent of the turnover registered in September 2019," Minister Nikolina Brnjac said.

She was particularly pleased with financial indicators for September, saying that the value of fiscalised receipts in the tourism sector increased by 19% compared with September 2019. In the first nine months their value was HRK 21 billion, which is about 88% of the value recorded in the corresponding period of 2019.

In the first nine months of this year, 12.6 million tourists visited Croatia, generating 80 million bed nights. These are increases of 70% and 53% respectively compared with the same period of 2020, while the number of arrivals reached 67% and the number of bed nights 78% of the results for the same period of 2019.
