Croatia's tourism sector joins relief efforts for Ukrainian refugees

Croatia's tourism sector has joined relief efforts for Ukrainian refugees, making its accommodation facilities available for this purpose and showing solidarity, Tourism and Sport Minister Nikolina Brnjac told the press on Tuesday after meeting with representatives of the largest hotel groups. "Today we are primarily thinking of how to help the Ukrainian people," Brnjac said.

She informed the hotel groups about the government's aid package for Ukraine and the possible activation of an EU mechanism providing for temporary protection in the event of a large influx of displaced persons. In practice, that would mean that the stay of Ukrainian refugees in Croatia would not be limited to 90 days and that in addition to accommodation and healthcare they would also have the option of joining the labour market.

The minister called on all stakeholders in the tourism sector, in particular those providing accommodation services, to contact the ministry and indicate how they could help.

Brnjac said that promotional activities on the Russian travel market had been suspended following the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.
