Croatian economy and tourism to be presented at Japan's World Travel Fair this week The Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK), in co-operation with the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ), will present Croatia's economy and tourism at Japan's largest tourism fair, the JATA World Travel Fair, between September 22-26 with a multimedia exhibition called "Be CROative", HGK said on Monday. The "Be CROative" exhibition in Tokyo will feature more than 40 top Croatian products. Minister and travel agencies ink deals on new tourist servicesCroatian Tourism Minister Damir Bajs and representatives of 34 travel agencies signed on Saturday contracts on nonrepayable grants in the total amount of HRK 2.9 million for 169 new services. These services are designed to attract about 250,000 domestic and foreign guests in the tourist sector in the next three years, notably before and after the peak season, Bajs said at the contract-signing ceremony in Jastrebarsko southwest of Zagreb. Those services, planned within the "Get to Know Croatia" programme, are expected to accentuate Croatia's advantages, primarily the cultural and natural resources of our country, he said.

Tourism ministry co-financing project of international police cooperation Interior Minister Tomislav Karamarko and Tourism Minister Damir Bajs signed in the coastal city of Novi Vinodolski on Sunday an agreement on co-financing the stay of uniform police from European countries in Croatian coastal cities. Under the agreement, the Tourism Ministry will allocate 200,000 kuna for the project. The project has been implemented since 2006, and this year 60 police officers from seven countries and the Interpol General Secretariat were staying on the Croatian coast. They carried out their tasks in police uniforms, without carrying any weapons, and went on joint patrols with Croatian police. Karamarko said that this year 169 criminal acts had been committed against foreign nationals, a 20 percent decrease in relation to 2009. Speaking of the tourist season which is nearing completion, Minister Bajs pointed to the very good results in July. The regions of Istria and Kvarner are slowly picking up, and some areas in Dalmatia have seen a two-digit increase in tourist turnover, he said.

Croatian Prime Minister Expresses Full Support for the Tourism SectorUNWTO Secretary-General, Mr. Taleb Rifai, met with the Croatian Prime Minister, Ms. Jadranka Kosor, and the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Damir Bajs, to discuss tourism development in the country during a visit to Croatia (20-21 August, 2010). The Prime Minister expressed her full support for the tourism sector, underlining its crucial role in economic growth and development. Meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr. Rifai praised the resilience of the country’s tourism sector after the recent economic turbulence. The Prime Minister stressed that results for July and August indicate that the country could have one of its best summer seasons this year. Croatia received 9.3 million international tourists in 2009 and US$ 8.9 billion (euro 6.4 billion) in international tourism receipts.
