Croatia and Spain could cooperate in tourism promotion on remote markets as early as next year, with details to be defined by a joint task force at a meeting in Zagreb, Croatian Tourism Minister Damir Bajs and the Spanish state secretary for tourism, Joan Mesquida Ferrando, told Croatian reporters after talks in Madrid on Tuesday. Ferrando said tourism was a very important sector for both countries, adding that apart from cooperation in tourism promotion, Croatia and Spain would also define possibilities of cooperation in the promotion of quality in tourism. Bajs said the cooperation in distant markets could be part of Spain's such promotion with Portugal, Italy and France, adding that Slovenia could also become part of the project.

Given that Croatia will join the European Union soon and Spain's extensive experience with EU funds, Croatia will benefit from the cooperation and Spain's advice on how to absorb the funds. The current interest in Croatia among Spanish tourists is positive. Later this week, Bajs is scheduled to meet Spanish tour operators and visit Barcelona. (Hina)
