One of the world's leading organisers of electronic music festivals, Ultra Worldwide of the United States, has chosen Croatia among 16 European countries for its first European festival to be held in the southern coastal city of Split and the island of Hvar on July 12-14, 2013.

The festival, called Ultra Europe, is expected to attract over 60,000 visitors and bring about 20 million euros in tourist spending over the next five years.

The festival was announced in the presence of Tourism Minister Veljko Ostojic at a press conference in Zagreb this past week when the festival organisers, Ultra Worldwide and Croatia's Adria MM, signed

a five-year cooperation agreement.

Ostojic said that his ministry unequivocally supported such major events because they would help change the stereotyped image of Croatia and its tourism into "a tourism of experience and emotion".

The festival will take place at Split's Poljud Stadium on July 12 and 13 and close on Hvar island on July 14. (Hina)
