The "Zrno Soli" restaurant in Split and the "il Ponte" restaurant in Trogir were on Wednesday awarded Michelin golden plaques for gastronomic creativity in 2023, and they were first winners of this award in Croatia.

The award-giving ceremony was held in Split on Wednesday evening by the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ), the Croatian partner to the Michelin guide for development of gastronomy.

"The Croatian National Tourist Board has been cooperating with Michelin for years, and this year for the first time Michelin golden plaques are awarded in our country," said Slavija Jačan Obratov, a director at the HTZ.

Croatia is the seventh country in the world where Michelin golden plaques are conferred for gastronomic creativity, after Spain, Germany, France, Austria, Italy and Portugal.

According to Jačan Obratov, there are currently 85 Michelin-rated restaurants in Croatia, which is very important for the promotion of Croatia's gastronomy and tourism.

The owner of the "Zrno soli" restaurant, Ivo Vrdoljak, said at the ceremony that he was happy to get this award, comparing it to winning the Champions' League in football.

Marija Šego of "il Ponte" said they were proud of their achievement considering that the restaurant started working three years ago.
