Tourist traffic from Germany expected to continue to grow

​Tourist traffic from Germany is expected to continue to grow and the introduction of the euro and Croatia's entry into the Schengen Area will contribute to that growth this year, Tourism Minister Nikolina Brnjac said on Wednesday in Munich at the  f.re.e travel and leisure fair.

During this largest international tourist fair for the general public in Bavaria, around 130,000 visitors are expected until 26 February and Croatia is this year's partner country.

"We entered this year with two major things that will make travelling from Germany easier, namely the use of the common European currency, the euro, and the entry into the Schengen Area. We highlighted this especially through the motto of the performance here in Munich - Croatia has never been closer and we believe that these benefits will further encourage German tourists to take shorter trips outside the summer season," said Brnjac at the opening of the fair.

The director of the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ), Kristjan Staničić, underlined that bookings from Germany are currently rising at a double-digit rate, compared to the same time in 2019, but also he admitted that it is still early for summer forecasts. However, as there will be more airlines, and according to research by the German automobile club ADAC, a lot more short trips, for example on weekends, can be expected from Germany this year, he added.

The national air carrier Croatia Airlines (CA) presented its summer flight schedule in front of 70 German travel agents in Munich on Wednesday, and the manager of the CA sales market for Central Europe, Mate Radić, said on that occasion that the connections between Germany and Croatia will be much better this year than last year. CA will fly from Bavaria to six airports in Croatia (Split, Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Osijek, Rijeka and Brač).
