TOURIST SEASON IN THE BLACK THANKS TO TOURIST NIGHTS
The first eight months of this year saw more than 49 million tourist nights, up 0.2 per cent from the same time period in 2008, Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said in the northern Adriatic resort of Opatija on Tuesday. Tourist boards' initial data for August point to an increase in tourist arrivals and nights, and for the first time the entire season is in the black thanks to tourist nights, Kosor said at a session of a commission coordinating and monitoring activities in tourism this year.

August saw more than 2.8 million tourist arrivals, up three per cent year on year, and 19.2 million tourist nights, up five per cent on the year.
The first eight months of the year saw a 0.2 per cent increase in tourist nights and a two per cent decline in tourist arrivals to 8.1 million.
For 2010, Kosor announced that the school year would start later in line with requests coming from the tourist trade, and the cancellation of visa requirements for several more countries, including India and China. She also added that the Croatian National Tourist Board was preparing to open a representative office in China. (Hina)
