Tourist results in first nine months good

In the first nine months of 2011, 10.6 million people vacationed in Croatia, making 58 million overnight stays, which is an 8.1 percent increase in arrivals and a 6.8 percent increase in overnight stays compared to the same period of 2010, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics said on Friday.

Foreign tourists accounted for 9.35 million arrivals and 53 million overnight stays, 8.9 and 7.2 percent more respectively.

Domestic tourists accounted for 1.25 million arrivals, up 2.4 percent, and they made close to five million overnight stays, up 3 percent.

The most numerous among foreign tourists were Germans, with a share of 22.6 percent in overnight stays. They were followed by Slovenians, with a share of 11.8 percent in overnight stays.

Italians were the third most numerous visitors, with a share of 9.2 percent, followed by Austrians with 8.8 percent, Czechs with 8.2 percent, Poles with 5.9 percent and Slovakians with a 4.3 percent share in overall foreign overnight stays.

In September alone, there were 1.3 million tourist arrivals, an increase of 17.6 percent compared to September 2010, and overnight stays were up 13.1 percent, to more than 6.8 million. (Hina)
