The US organisation for luxury travel Virtuoso has recorded a 28% demand increase for Croatia, which ranks among the ten fastest growing destinations in its annual survey, Croatia's National Tourist Board (HTZ) said on Thursday on the occasion of its promotion at Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas on August 11-17.

The event has brought over 6,000 participants from 100 countries and HTZ representatives held numerous meetings with their colleagues from the US, Canada, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand.

The US is a very important market for Croatian tourism, recording two-digit growth rates annually, HTZ director Kristjan Stanicic said, adding that it was strategically important to intensify promotion on such a large market.

Good cooperation with large tour operators and networks such as Virtuoso, which has partners in over 50 countries, contributes to the positive trends, he added.

The director of the HTZ's New York office, Ina Rodin, said Virtuoso put Croatia in its annual survey's top ten destinations in three categories - fastest growing destinations, most popular destinations for millennials, and most popular international destinations.

This year 373,000 Americans visited Croatia, up 23% on the year, registering nearly 1.1 million nights, an increase of 18%, putting the US among the fastest growing markets for Croatian tourism. (Hina)
