Tourism Minister attending UNWTO General Assembly

Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin is attending a session of the General Assembly of the UNWTO World Tourist Organisation which is being held on August 24-29 at Victoria Falls (Zambia/Zimbabwe) where visa facilitation, connectivity and accessibility are the key topics. The Tourism Ministry said on Wednesday that representatives of more than 120 countries were taking part and Croatia's Tourism Minister was elected vice president of the General Assembly as Europe's delegate. During the assembly, delegation heads conducted a discussion on connectivity focusing on air transport.

In his presentation Lorencin underscored the importance of quality in all forms of transport toward developing tourism and using the example of Croatia he explained the significance of a quality transport infrastructure as a precondition to connect destinations with their tourism markets, the ministry's statement says.

Even though most tourists to Croatia come by road there is a growing number of flights to all Croatian airports on the coast which will contribute to extending the peak season and increasing the number of guests coming from distant locations and new markets, Lorencin said.

Minister Lorencin participated in a round table discussion along with 47 other tourism ministers on the topic of visa regimes where he spoke about Croatia's experience with visa regimes and how these impacted the volume of tourism.

The UNWTO General Assembly is held every two years. Croatia has been a member of this organisation since 1993.
