A project by the Dubrovnik city authorities and the local tourism office, called "The Dubrovnik digital nomad-in-residence", as part of which Dubrovnik played host to ten digital nomads from different parts of the world over the past month, was completed on Saturday.

As part of the project, digital nomads were acquainted, through a number of activities, workshops and excursions, with the way of life of local residents and local culture, exploring the city and its environs.

Their experience will help create a better atmosphere for future nomads who will choose Dubrovnik as their place of work as well as contribute to the global promotion of the destination.

"We wanted the digital nomads to send a strong message to other digital nomads around the world that they can find a place for development of creative ideas in Dubrovnik. By doing so they contribute also to the local economy because we expect from them new ideas, products and a new view of Dubrovnik," Mayor Mato Franković said.

He announced the establishment of a so-called digital nomad house, where digital nomads will be able to find all necessary information as well as a place to work.

The head of the local tourism office, Ana Hrnić, said that visits by digital nomads were expected to continue in the coming months.

She stressed that at the workshops that were held digital nomads pointed to the problem of long-term accommodation and coworking space.

Speaking of the workshops that were attended by digital nomads and residents of Dubrovnik, Tanja Polegubić of the Saltwalter Nomads company said their purpose was to define together recommendations for creating a better environment for digital nomads planning to come to Dubrovnik.

The owner of the Total Croatia web portal, Paul Bradbury, said the project was an excellent opportunity for changes in the tourism sector, based on a new slogan, "Croatia - Your safe, authentic, lifestyle destination".

He said the project had already made a splash, announcing for next week a conference in Zagreb.

The head of the Digital Nomad Association Croatia, Jan de Jong, said that the project was developing very quickly and successfully.

He underlined the importance of developing both the content and the community, adding that they also wanted to send a message of inspiration to young people possibly planning to leave Croatia to reverse the brain drain with the arrival of digital nomads.

"The Dubrovnik digital nomad-in-residence" is a joint project by the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Tourism Office, in cooperation with Total Croatia News and Saltwater Nomads.
