The National Association of Family and Small Hotels and the Pevex homewares retail chain signed an agreement on Wednesday according to which Pevex will be the general partner of the association which has around 200 small hotels.

This is the first agreement of its kind between Pevex and an association from the tourism sector and it should lead to better business for small and family hotels.

Under the agreement,  hotels from the association will have access to better rebates and discounts in Pevex shops.

The agreement was signed by Pevex CEO Krešimir Bubalo and the president of the National Association of Family and Small Hotels, Šime Klarić, who underscored the importance of this cooperation and the benefits for small hoteliers now that, after three years of pandemic, tourism and investments are returning in full swing.

Klarić stated that there are about 400 small and family hotels in Croatia, all of which can count on the association, whether they are members or not, and about 25 percent of them are on the continent and they all work 9 to 12 months a year, which he considers important for year-round tourist industry.

On average, they have around 25 employees, and most of them, in addition to the current increase in costs, energy prices and other things, are troubled by large taxes and non-tax levies, as well as a long period for returns on investment, which for them is about 20 years. According to Klarić, this could be reduced to 15 years or less, if they operate in a more favourable business environment.

"We hope state aid will continue after 1 April, without which we would not have survived the past pandemic years and without which more small hotels would have been sold than they are at the moment," Klarić said.
