A legislative framework has been created and all key documents have been adopted for central and local government to jointly manage tourism with the sector towards sustainability, which should contribute to a better and more competitive tourism, revenue and people's lives, the premier said on Friday.

Speaking at Croatian Tourism Days (DHT), Prime Minister Andrej Plenković underlined the importance of security due to the Middle East situation. "We must watch for even the smallest risk and concentrate on avoiding any harmful situations, including to tourism," he said.

We can be satisfied with this year's results in the tourism industry because they show that it has recovered after the pandemic crisis and is moving on, in which the government has helped too with job aid measures, energy subsidies and other measures, Plenković said.

He congratulated everyone in the sector on that as well as Istria County on having the largest share in Croatia's tourism for years and on accounting for 25% of all nights. Istria County, which borders Slovenia, has also adjusted well to the Schengen regime and the recently tightened border control, he said.

The Tourism Act is "a chance" to use all the mechanisms for sustainable tourism management at all levels, Plenković said.
