As many as 21 million overnight stays were registered in Croatia in the first 21 days of August, and the number of overnight stays so far this year stands at over 65 million, according to data collected by eVisitor system for registration of incoming and outgoing guests.

The Croatian National Tourist Board's (HTZ) Main Office director Ratomir Ivicic told Hina on Monday that the results so far have been excellent.

Ivicic said that the peak season in the tourist trade was still ongoing.

Broken down by nationality of foreign guests, Croatia seems the most desirable destination for Germans, Slovenians, Italians, Poles, Austrians, Czechs, Hungarians, Slovaks and the Dutch and Britons.

Croatia is the most sought-after destination in the world according to a comprehensive analysis of Google data, reads an article titled "Mapped: Where the world wants to go on holiday" in the on-line edition of Britain's The Telegraph newspaper.

The article's author, Oliver Smith, says Croatia's ranking is the result of an analysis of queries made on the website teflSearch between July 2015 and July 2016 from more than 80 countries in 52 languages, which produced a series of maps that reveal the holiday wish lists of various nationalities.

"Croatia featured in 2.71 per cent of travel-related searches worldwide and was followed by a clutch of other beach favourites: Greece (2.54 per cent), Turkey, Thailand (both 2.47 per cent), Spain (1.99 per cent), Italy (1.9 per cent), Cuba (1.85 per cent), Portugal (1.66 per cent) and Malta (1.65 per cent).

The US completed the top 10, while the most visited country in the world – France – didn't make the cut," says Smith. (Hina)
