The Croatian historic town of Nin, situated on the Adriatic coast northwest of Zadar, has been selected as this year's national candidate for the European Destinations of Excellence (EDEN) award, a commission of the Croatian Tourism Board and the Tourism Ministry decided this past week.

The commission said it has chosen Nin among 19 nominated destinations because it has the greatest potential for the development of eco-tourism and other selective forms of tourism based on sustainability and because the town is situated by the sea since this year's theme of the award is Aquatic Tourism.

Nin boasts a Blue Flag as proof of the clean sea, curative mud, and endemic plant and animal species, and offers visitors various events and opportunities for an active vacation.

The EDEN project aims to promote European tourism, European countries and regions, networking between awarded destinations, and raise awareness of the diversity and quality of European tourist services. (Hina)
