The February-March issue of National Geographic Traveler magazine recommends discovering Europe's best small ports, including Croatia's Zadar, the seaport's tourist board said on Thursday.

Apart from Zadar, the magazine recommends visiting Alesund in Norway, Tallinn in Estonia, Gdansk in Poland, Ajaccio in France and Valletta on Malta. Regarding Zadar, the magazine says that for "nearly 3,000 years, (the) Croatian port on the northern Dalmatian coast - has absorbed the legacies of foreign powers, visible today in the Old Town Peninsula's varied architecture.

"The magazine adds that Zadar is flanked "by dozens of idyllic Adriatic islands and within an hour's drive of five national parks."

The Zadar Tourist Board said the National Geographic Traveler had often written about Zadar in recent years, including it among the most romantic towns in the world, and that its first feature of the seaport appeared in 1928. (Hina)
