Bavaria and Croatia are great friends and it is important that they are together in Europe in light of the war in Ukraine, but there are a lot of opportunities for cooperation in tourism, agriculture and other areas, Bavarian Minister Michaela Kaniber said after meeting with Croatian Minister Nikolina Brnjac.

The two ministers met in the Bavarian Parliament on Thursday for talks as part of the promotion of Croatian tourism this week in Munich, where Croatia is the partner country at the f.re.e fair.

Bavaria's Minister of Food, Agriculture and Forestry told reporters after the meeting that the good relations and connections between Bavaria and Croatia are confirmed by the approximately 1.7 million tourists who come to Croatia annually from Bavaria, as well as numerous Croatian citizens who increasingly visit Bavaria on business.

"I congratulate Minister Brnjac on the reforms in tourism that I have heard about, and we expect that Croatia will continue to develop, as well as the quality of its tourism services," Kaniber said.

She  chairs the permanent Croatian-Bavarian commission that has been operating for 52 years in all areas, including tourism, and is the longest form of cooperation between Croatia and Bavaria, the second largest German federal state in terms of population (13 million).

Sinj Alkars big attraction in Munich, Bavarians invite them to Octoberfest

At the same time, more than a hundred Sinj Alkars and their Alkar boys, headed by the secretary of the Alkar Knights' Society of Sinj, Ivan Nasić, were received in the parliament by Konrad Kobler, Croatia's Honorary Consul in Passau.

He spoke about the situation in Bavaria, including the problems of small hospitals that are facing closure, as well as about 30,000 Ukrainian children who are staying in Bavaria and learning German, and about a shortage of teachers.

Minister Kaniber also addressed the Alkars saying that "everyone who respects their roots will be stronger in the world."

Consul Vladimir Duvnjak and secretary Nasić revealed that there was an initiative from Munich for the Alkars to participate in the Octoberfest parade this year, which they will discuss. This would be their second performance at the Octoberfest after their first appearance in 1996.
