Croatian tourism should not expect a reduction of Value Added Tax this year due to the lack of budgetary funds. However, hotels and tourist companies can apply for financial support under Model A and Model B for economic recovery and development, Tourism Minister Damir Bajs and Finance Minister Ivan Suker said on Tuesday at their meeting with representatives of the Croatian association of employers in the hotel sector (HUPUH).

Minister Bajs said that the talks focused mainly on preparations for the coming tourist season, which he said would not be easier than last year's.

HUPUH President Kristian Sustar said that the meeting was a good introduction for setting up a broad framework and mechanisms for solving macroeconomic and institutionalised problems faced by hotel managers and owners in their business operations.

According to Sustar, a large number of applications from the hotel sector could be expected for Model A loans.

A decline of investment in the hotel sector and in the entire private tourist sector could exceed 20 per cent from last year when HRK 4.5 billion was invested in the tourist trade, according to HUPUH estimates.
