Faraway markets, notably China, are important for Croatian tourism, which has potential for Chinese guests, and Croatia expects them in high numbers in the long term, Croatian Tourism Minister Damir Bajs said in Shanghai, adding Croatia's National Tourist Board (HTZ) was planning to open its Chinese office during 2011.

He was speaking to Chinese reporters during a presentation of Croatia's tourism on Tuesday.

Representatives of the ministry, the HTZ, the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies, and Slovenia's National Tourist Board are presenting Croatia's and Slovenia's tourism in China this week.

Bajs reminded Chinese press that Croatia had liberalized the visa requirements for Chinese tourists during the summer season.

Later on Wednesday, Bajs and the Croatian delegation were scheduled to visit the Expo 2010 Shanghai world fair.

On Thursday, the tourism of Croatia and Slovenia will be presented in Beijing.
