Minister for lower VAT in tourism

Caretaker Tourism Minister Anton Kliman on Thursday said that a lower Value Added Tax (VAT) for tourism was being negotiated so that Croatia's tourism industry could be more competitive on the international scale. Kliman met in Dubrovnik with local and regional government officials and tourism representatives. Speaking about a lower VAT rate in tourism, Kliman said that negotiations were being conducted concerning percentages.

Caretaker Tourism Minister Anton Kliman on Thursday said that a lower Value Added Tax (VAT) for tourism was being negotiated so that Croatia's tourism industry could be more competitive on the international scale.

Kliman met in Dubrovnik with local and regional government officials and tourism representatives.

Speaking about a lower VAT rate in tourism, Kliman said that negotiations were being conducted concerning percentages.

"This was my initiative because those are the demands of the sector. We have to be closer to our competitors. We discussed a VAT rate of about 10%, the finance ministry understands and the rate will be at the levels of competitors," he said.

Asked by reporters whether the issuing of visas for Russian tourists could be stepped up in light of an agreement signed earlier in the day between the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies and Russian tour operators, Kliman said the introduction of multiple entry visas was being considered, adding that it was necessary to adhere to EU rules.
