Tourism and Sports Minister Tonči Glavina has decided to allocate €3.42 million to co-finance 192 programmes aimed at promoting local sports and sporting events this year, the ministry said on Monday.

Glavina also decided to allocate €484,486 to co-finance 32 swimming instruction programmes under the "Croatia swims" initiative for non-swimmers this year.

This is the largest amount of such funds allocated so far, the minister said.

Since 2016, we have co-financed nearly 1,000 projects totaling €13.3 million for local sports programmes, and over 140 "Croatia swims" projects with €1.8 million. Through these activities, we have involved 430,000 citizens in sports, including 340,000 children and youth, and taught swimming to more than 35,000 participants. These are concrete indicators of the government's investment in the development of local sports, with a focus on children and youth, and we will continue with such support in the future, Glavina said.
