The majority of Croatia's strongest tourist destinations from 2007 to 2012 improved the quality of their offer, services and infrastructure, with the best efforts seen in Istria and Dalmatia, while continental regions lag behind, particularly Slavonia, where quality is the lowest.

These are the conclusions of a survey of the quality of tourism in selected tourist destinations in Croatia between 2007 and 2012, presented on Thursday at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) and organised by the HGK Tourism Sector.

The survey was conducted using the DESTqual quality control method for tourist destinations which is very complex. It was conducted in 97 locations, 59 on the coast and 38 in continental Croatia.

The locations were selected based on the number of bed-nights, population numbers and administrative status with the aim of assessing the quality of the tourism offer during the tourism season and ranking them by quality.

Presenting the results, the head of the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences, Sasa Poljanec Boric, said that by far Istria offered the best quality destinations, however it was a little lower ranked for its hospitality content.

On the other hand, Slavonia scored below average and Poljanec Boris said that this region required specially designed measures to develop quality tourist destinations. (Hina)
