Members of the Istria County Tourist Board expressed their satisfaction during a meeting in Pula on Wednesday regarding the results achieved in 2012, assessing the tourist season as exceptionally successful.

According to the board's director, Denis Ivosevic, the most important achievement last year could be seen in the 3.2 million tourist arrivals and almost 22 million bed nights in this largest Croatian peninsula.

He pointed out that Istria was awarded with five exceptionally important recognitions, the most significant being the ADAC award as the most desirable auto destination for German auto-tourists.

"This is an important recognition for us as our most frequent guests are in fact German tourists and we have been given this award three consecutive years which has given us an edge over other renown tourist regions in Europe", Ivosevic told a press conference after the meeting.

In addition to this prestigious award, Istria was listed in the top 10 destinations for 2012 and has once again been placed in the list of top 10 tourist destinations for 2013.

According to a survey which included 1.3 million queries made on ADAC's Routenplanner itinerary planning tool, Croatia is once again listed as the third favourite destination for German campers, after Germany and Italy, Istria being their favourite region in Europe, followed by the Dalmatian coast, the regions of Veneto and Friuli and Lake Garda in Italy, and Upper Bavaria.
