International conference on historical cities being held in Solin

​The 4th International Historical Cities Congress opened on Wednesday in the historical city of Solin with more than 150 domestic and foreign participants who will speak about various topics on how to protect and present historical cities. Solin Mayor Dalibor Nincevic underscored that the congress was aimed at raising awareness of Solin and the ancient town of Salona and its importance for archaeological and historical tourism, adding that he wasn't pleased with how Salona was developing as a tourist attraction.

He said that he would raise this issue with the government when it is scheduled to meet in Split early in May so that it can be raised to the level of a national project.

"That's the first and most important step so that Salona can continue to be valorised, recognised and researched and to be a desirable tourist destination, not just in Croatia but in Europe and the world," he said.

Klis Mayor Jakov Vetma said that they were working on this historical town's Interpretation Centre. This project is valued at more than HRK 500,000 and it envisages adapting and equipping existing premises where a hologram will present Klis's history and culture.

The congress, which will last until Friday, has drawn tourism and archaeology experts from Slovenia, Jordan, Poland, Italy and Egypt. Participants will discuss historical heritage, cultural tourism, presentations and interpretations of cultural and historical heritage, challenges and experiences in creating and selling cultural-tourism products etc. (Hina/FaH)
