The International Congress of Historic Cities brought together 120 local and foreign cultural tourism experts in Solin on Wednesday, who in the next two days will exchange experiences related to the improvement of the preservation of historical and cultural heritage.

The ninth International Congress of Historic Cities in Solin is dedicated to the protection and interpretation of historical attractions and sites in historical towns throughout Croatia through "benchmarking" with towns from abroad.

In addition to lectures on historical heritage, which will be held by experts in archaeological tourism from Croatia, Italy, Turkey and Albania, the program also includes panel discussions on the topic of cultural tourism.

"With this congress, we encourage excellence in the management of historic towns," said the director of the Tourist Board of Solin, Jelena Stupalo.

The mayor of Solin, Dalibor Ninčević, pointed out that with this congress, Solin is affirming its status of a recognisable cultural and historical tourism destination. "We are building the future of Solin on the ancient and old Croatian heritage and the young population," Ninčević said.

Split-Dalmatia County deputy prefect Stipe Čogelja said the congress contributes to the development of archaeological tourism, while the director of the county tourism board, Ivana Vladović, emphasised how important it is to show cultural heritage to the world.

The organisers of the congress are the Tourist Board of the city of Solin, Hotel President and the city of Solin, and among the patrons and sponsors are the Ministry of Culture and Media, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and Split-Dalmatia County.
