Croatia is among the most sought-after travel destinations at the New York Times Travel Show, as indicated by market surveys and bookings announced by leading travel organisations, the Croatian Tourism Board (HTZ) said on Saturday.

The tourism boards of the City of Zagreb and the Counties of Dubrovnik-Neretva, Split-Dalmatia, Zadar and Lika-Senj are participating in the show, which is taking place in New York on January 24-26.

"The presentation of Croatia's tourism offering at the New York fair is of strategic importance if we know that the American market is one of the most important overseas markets for Croatia from which we generate the largest tourist turnover. The continuation of American Airlines flights between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik will further boost tourist arrivals from the United States this year, and our ultimate goal is to intensify flight services between the US and Croatia," HTZ Director Kristjan Stanicic said.

He said that 655,000 US tourists had visited Croatia in 2019, generating 1.8 million overnight stays, which is an annual increase of 12%.

The New York Times Travel show features over 700 exhibitors from 175 countries and attracts over 35,000 visitors, which makes it the largest travel show in North America.
