The Minister of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development, Božidar Kalmeta, stated at the Government's session on Friday that this year's tourist season was quite successful with even better results than last year.

In the first nine months this year, the number of tourist arrivals and overnight stays rose by 3%, with 9.2 million arrivals and over 51.7 million overnight stays.

Figures about financial yields are still not officially confirmed but Kalmeta expects a higher income, topping last year's EUR 6 billion.

The Government then adopted a report on the tourist results from this season and a program for activities to prepare for the tourist season 2007.

The Ivo Sanader cabinet also adopted a strategy for broadband Internet access until 2008 and the action plan for the implementation of the strategy in 2007.

Croatia currently has four broadband Internet connections per 100,000 citizens, or some 170,000 such connections. Its strategic goal is to ensure the penetration of 12 % until the end of 2008, i.e. 500,000 connections, said Kalmeta.
