Regional Development and EU Funds Minister Marko Pavic visited the Gorski Kotar region on Friday, telling reporters in Ravna Gora the incumbent government had invested a record HRK 300 million into this mountainous region, including European, national and Swiss funds.

The priority of the Andrej Plenkovic cabinet is balanced development of the country and enabling citizens to have an identical or a similar standard of living, Pavic said.

He recalled that the government adopted a law on mountainous regions and a law on assisted areas, and that the wish was to encourage investment in Gorski Kotar. He announced stronger investment in local tourism and infrastructure, saying the goal was to keep people from leaving.

Asked about the ministry's priorities for the autumn, Pavic said the goal was to contract 85% of EU funds by year's end and to draw up the best programmes for the next financial framework.

Asked if it was possible to reduce the financial burden on local government in Gorski Kotar during the implementation of a Swiss-Croatian water supply and sewerage renovation project, the minister announced a meeting on this topic with the national water authority for next week. (Hina/FaH)
