Germany key tourist emitting market to Croatia, says minister

Germany will remain the biggest tourist emitting market to Croatia in 2010, and the ITB in Berlin is certainly the most important fair for the Croatian tourist trade, Croatian Tourism Minister Damir Bajs said on Wednesday while attending the world's leading travel trade show, which began in the German capital today.



This year's ITB drew record high 11,272 exhibitors from 128 countries.

Bajs told a news conference that despite the global crisis in 2009, German tourists were the most numerous guests in Croatia. Their number increased by 2.2 per cent to 1.6 million and they booked 11.5 million overnight stays, an increase of 4.3 per cent on the year.



This year, nearly EUR 2.08 million will be spent on associated advertisements and promotion of Croatia's tourism in Germany, which evidences an increasing interest among German tour operators in the Croatian market, as last year this amount was three times lower, Bajs added.

He said Croatia offered to German guests three important factors: high quality, vicinity of motorways and value for money.

Currently, Croatia has 23 five-star and 144 four-star hotels, and camp facilities and marinas are also improving their offer and quality, according to the minister.
