An estimated 50,000 tourists were registered in Croatia during the New Year celebrations, and some hotels had five and a half times more guests on New Year's Eve than last year, according to data from the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ).

Of those 50,000 tourists, 30,000 were foreigners, according to an article published by the Jutarnji List daily on Monday.

The coastal areas of Istria, Kvarner, Split and Dubrovnik counties reported the highest number of New Year revellers staying in hotels.

On 1 January 2022, 27,000 guests were accommodated in hotels, while on 1 January 2021, there were a mere 5,000 hotel guests in Croatia.

The most sought-after destinations for New Year celebrations were Zagreb, Opatija, Dubrovnik, Poreč and Split.
