Croatia recorded 15.7 million tourist arrivals in the first eight months of 2018, up 5% on the year, and 88.5 million bed nights, up 4%, while 3% more arrivals and 1% more overnight stays year on year were recorded in August alone, the National Tourist Board said on Thursday. Arrivals in August were 4.6 million, while tourist nights were 32.1 million.

In the first eight months of 2018, foreign tourists accounted for 14 million arrivals, up 5% on the year, and 78.2 million nights, up 4%. Domestic tourists accounted for 8% more arrivals and 6% more nights.

Commenting on the data, Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli said the Tourism Satellite Balance would be finished by the end of the year, when the actual indicators of the effects of  tourism on the economy will be known.

He said numbers could not be a measure of success as the number of arrivals did not show the value they generated and the number of nights did not show tourists' daily demand. Tourism revenue growth is more important than increases in arrivals and nights, and the first quarter saw a 14% revenue increase on the year, he added.
