​DZS: Number of people in work up 1.3% in July, unemployment up by 2%

A total of 1.47 million people were gainfully employed in Croatia at the end of July, which is an increase of 1.2% or 17,510 people more than the previous month, while the registered unemployment rate increased by 2.0%, figures from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) show.

The largest increase in the number of persons employed was recorded in tourism and hospitality, with 8.7% rise to  87,344, and this sector was followed by the services sector with a jump of 5.7% to 18,796 employed in this sector.
 
According to data taken from the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute, at the end of July there were 211,622 people employed in trades and freelance professions which is an increase of 1.5% or 3,182 people compared to June.
 
The number of insured workers in the agriculture sector however decreased by 0.2% to 19,229.
 
According to data from the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ), there were 114,389 job-seekers at the end of July, up 2.0% on the month, and down by 16% on the year.
 
Hence the unemployment rate at the end of July in Croatia was 7.2%. (Hina)
