Canadian airline Air Transat will operate direct flights between Zagreb and Toronto from June 15 until October, Canadian Ambassador Daniel Maksymiuk announced during a visit to the Tourism Ministry in Zagreb.

The ambassador said he believed that the potential to extend the flight season and increase flight frequency existed not only because of a sizeable Croatian community in Canada but also because of the potential to develop business cooperation and encourage Canadian investments in Croatia's tourism and other industries.

Assistant Tourism Minister Olivera Shejbal said that the ministry would like to see stronger development of Croatian airports, both those on the mainland and on the islands.

Maksymiuk and Shejbal also discussed the need to extend the tourist season and put greater focus on continental tourist destinations, inclinations and expectations of Canadian tourists, and possibilities of exchanges of young professionals from the tourist and hotel industries.

Air Transat annually flies about 3 million passengers to nearly 60 destinations in 30 countries.
