Croatians spend HRK 12.6 bln on private trips, up 28%

Almost 1.6 million Croatians made at least one private trip in the duration of several days in 2015, spending a total of HRK 12.6 billion or 28% more than in 2014, show data from the national statistical office (DZS).

The statistics, published as part of a survey on Croatians' tourism activities in 2015, show that most Croatians, 1.03 million, travelled inside Croatia. Around 220,000 people travelled abroad, while 300,000 travelled both abroad and inside the country.

They went on a total of 5.65 million private trips of several days, which is 15% less than in 2014, however, the number of overnight stays they generated grew by 0.5% to 37.6 million.

Even though the number of overnight stays grew only mildly, the spending of Croatian travellers grew by close to 28%, to HRK 12.6 billion, of which HRK 5.1 billion (20.1% up) was spent on travel inside the country and HRK 7.5 billion (up 33.6%) on travel abroad.

Croatians spent an average HRK 2,228 per trip (both inside and outside the country).

Of all trips made, 3.6 million were made in Croatia (down 22.4%) and 2.1 million were made abroad (up 2%).

Regarding trips abroad, Croatians travelled the most to Italy (20%), followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina (18.3%), Austria (10.2%), Germany (10%) and Slovenia (7.5%).

As for business travel, only 355,000 Croatians or slightly less than 10% of the population above the age of 15 made at least one business trip of several days in 2015.

They made 964,000 business trips or 34% less than in 2014, of which 456,000 were made in Croatia (down 42.6%) and 512,000 were made abroad (down 30.6%).

Croatians spent HRK 5.2 billion on business trips, up 12.3% from 2014, and they made HRK 4.6 million overnight stays, as much as 56% less than in 2014. The average cost per business trip was HRK 5,400.
