The Croatian camping sector can expect an excellent season in 2012, according to indicators from the bookings in the first three weeks of January, the Croatian Camping Association (KUH) said on Wednesday.

KUH director Adriano Palman told Hina that a rise in bookings ranged between 30 and 100 percent in comparison to the corresponding period in 2010.

Palman recalled that in 2011 Croatia's camp facilities posted a record high number of stays, with 15.2 million overnight stays, which was a 7.5 percent increase in comparison to 2010.

Also, ADAC, the German auto club, upgraded the mark from 2.45 to 2.57 for Croatian camps in its recommendations for this year.

However, KUH warns that Croatian camping sites are still far from the highest possible mark of 5.

The latest ADAC camping and caravanning guide recommends 5,430 camps worldwide, with 105 in Croatia, one more than last year.

Of the 105 Croatian camping sites, 15 are marked with symbols showing their visible and significant improvement of the quality of the offer and amenities. Eight of them are located in Dalmatia, four in Kvarner and three in Istria.

Furthermore, Zaton near Zadar and Lanterna near Porec are cited among 70 European camping sites which ADAC has labelled as "superplatz".

As many as 11 Croatian camps are in the second best group of camping sites worldwide.

The latest ADAC camping guide was launched on 13 January, a day before the 14-22 January Stuttgart tourist show in which Croatia was the partner-country. (Hina)
