So far this year, Croatia has recorded 11 million tourist arrivals and 55 million bed nights, which is an 11% increase in arrivals compared with 2022, Tourism and Sport Minister Nikolina Brnjac told a press conference in the northern Adriatic town of Umag on Sunday.

Brnjac announced the adoption of the new Tourism Act, which provides for investment in products with added value, improvement of the structure and quality of tourist accommodation, investment in sports and recreational facilities, and the green and digital transition.

"It should be pointed out that the new law will for the first time provide for support for greening the charter fleet, investment in boating tourism and marinas, and in particular investment in environmental protection," the minister said.

She noted that the purpose of the new law was to preserve resources and space, maintain the quality of life for local population and ensure the global competitiveness of the Croatian tourism industry.

Brnjac said that the ATP tournament in Umag, with its traditional and excellent organisation, makes a great contribution to the promotion of Croatia and Istria as a top tourist destination.

"Sports tourism is one of the forms of tourism that is particularly supported by the government because of its added value to our tourism offering," the minister said.

Croatian Tourist Board Director Kristjan Staničić expressed satisfaction with the tourist season, saying that "the positive trend from the record pre-season is continuing."

He said that Istria is Croatia's most popular region among travellers and that the top 10 destinations in Croatia include four in Istria - Umag, Poreč, Rovinj and Medulin.

Staničić said that Istria had recorded two per cent more visitors in this part of the year than last year, citing increases in tourist arrivals and bed nights from nearly all source markets, including Germany, Slovenia, Austria, Italy and Hungary.
