Croatia is the partner country at F.re.e, Bavaria's most important international travel and leisure fair, which is taking place in Munich this week from Wednesday to Sunday.

After two pandemic years, the show is again taking place in full format and is expected to attract around 1,000 exhibitors from 70-odd countries who will showcase their products and services relating to travel, camping and caravanning, water sports, outdoor activities, fitness, and cycling.

The organiser expects over 100,000 visitors.

F.re.e is one of the most important travel shows for the Croatian tourism industry because around a third of all German tourists who spend their holidays in Croatia come from Bavaria.

Croatia will be presented by the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ) and its offices in Frankfurt and Munich, local tourist boards and transport operators, who will meet with their German partners, including ADAC, FTI, ID Riva Tours and Lust auf Kroatien. National flag carrier Croatia Airlines will present its summer flight schedule.

The Croatian programme will also include tastings of Croatian wines and cheeses, and music performances.

Last year, Croatia recorded 3.4 million tourist arrivals and 25 million bed nights from the German market, which surpassed the results of the record-breaking pre-pandemic year 2019. Initial announcements for this year are good, but still cautious.

"German tour operators and air carriers are cautious in their predictions for this summer season. They agree that there is an interest in Croatia, but concrete trends will largely depend on the economic and geopolitical situation which is having an impact on disposable holiday budgets," the HTZ said.

Nevertheless, the eVisitor results for January show a good start to the year as 9,000 German tourists visited Croatia and generated 37,000 bed nights, which are increases of 25% and 7% respectively compared with January 2022.
