Croatia has become a new hit destination on the U.S. tourist market this year and it can expect more arrivals from the USA than last year, particularly of tourists visiting Zagreb and its surroundings, Dalmatia and islands, the president of the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA) has said.

Robert Whitley made the statement at a news conference held in Zagreb on Monday on the occasion of the annual convention of the American Tourism Society (ATS), a member of the USTOA. The ATS conference is taking place in Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik from 15 to 20 April.

In 2006, 154,000 American tourists visited Croatia, a rise of 34 percent from 2005. They accounted for 384,000 overnight stays, an increase of 32 percent. (Hina)
