Tourism and Sports Minister Nikolina Brnjac on Thursday handed over contracts for the co-financing of three major international sports competitions, which will be held in Croatia this and next year.

The competitions are the Cro Race international cycling race, which will be held from 1 to 6 October 2024, and from 30 September to 5 October 2025, the World Handball Championship, which will be held from 15 January to 2 February 2025, and the World Wrestling Championship, which will take place  on 13-17 September 2025. The Croatian government will co-finance these events in the total amount of €12.6 million.

140 large events supported in the amount of more than €40m so far

By supporting the organisation of major international sports competitions, we contribute to the affirmation and popularisation of sports in Croatia, as well as strengthening the international reputation of our country. Since the beginning of the term, the government has recognised the importance of such competitions and every year has increased financial resources for this purpose, and so far more than 140 large events have been supported in the amount of more than €40 million. Thanks to events like this, Croatia is already recognised in the world as a sports destination and has become an unmissable destination for the world's best sportsmen and women, said Minister Nikolina Brnjac.
