Tourism and Sport Minister Nikolina Brnjac and the head of the Biokovka Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation in Makarska on Saturday signed a contract for a €7.9 million project as part of which the hospital will undergo the green and digital transition.

Brnjac said the project would facilitate the development of year-round tourism in the area of Makarska, adding that the government had secured record-high funding for the development of medical tourism, to co-finance 13 projects across the country in the amount of some €130 million.

The €7.9 million grant for the Biokovka 5.0 project will be used to improve the quality of services, reduce the hospital's impact on the environment, and for sustainable destination management.

Brnjac said that the government had recognised the crucial role of health tourism in the development of year-round and regionally balanced tourism.

The contract-signing ceremony was also attended by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
