Austrians prefer to go on holiday to Croatia

This year again Croatia is the number one destination in the world for Austrians, according to the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club, the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ) reported on Thursday. According to a survey taken in spring 2018, which included more than 800 respondents, Croatia was the number one tourist destination for Austrians. Italy ranks 2nd, while Spain was the third choice. A total of 18% of Austrians prefer to holiday in their own country.

So far in 2018, a total of 440,000 Austrians have visited Croatia and generated 1.8 million overnight stays, which is 6% more than in the same period last year, said HTZ director Kristjan Stanicic.

The most popular destinations in Croatia for Austrians are Rovinj, Porec, Umag, Medulin and Mali Losinj.

A total of 42% of Austrian tourists prefer to travel by car, while 41% prefer to travel by plane. There are a total of 31 regular and charter flight services connecting Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Rijeka and Zadar with Vienna.
