6.5% more tourists stay in commercial accommodation facilities in Dec 2019

A total of 372,000 tourists were registered in commercial accommodation establishments in Croatia in December 2019, 6.5% more compared to December 2018, and they made 777,000 overnight stays, up by 5.9%, according to data published by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DSZ) last Monday.

In December 2019 the number of foreign tourists and their overnight stays in commercial accommodation facilities was twice as high as the number of domestic tourists, and figures for both domestic and foreign tourists increased compared to December 2018.

There were 239,400 foreign tourists in total, an increase of 5.6%, and they made 522,000 overnight stays, or 5.2% more than in December 2018.

As for domestic tourists, there were 133,000 paying guests, an increase of 8.2%, and they made 255,000 overnight stays, or 7.2% more compared to December 2018, according to DZS data.

As for foreign tourists, for the fourth year in a row the most overnight stays were made by visitors from Austria (77,000 or 14.8%), followed by guests from Slovenia (67,000 overnight stays or 12.8%).

According to the DZS data, more tourists visited Croatia and stayed in commercial accommodation facilities individually (235,300) than as members of organised groups (137,000), and they also made more overnight stays, 507,000 compared to the 269,500 overnight stays made by organised groups of tourists. (Hina)
