Tourism and Sport Minister Nikolina Brnjac has issued a decision on the allocation of funds for co-funding local sports promotion programmes and sporting events in 2023, under which €2.63 million will be allocated for 160 programmes.

She also issued a decision on the allocation of funds for co-funding training programmes for non-swimmers, allocating €485,773.66 for 35 programmes.

"Allocations for local sports programmes have increased tenfold since 2016, and I am pleased to see that every year there are more and more programmes promoting physical activities for all our citizens, in particular children and young people. In the last eight years these programmes have made it possible for 310,000 people to engage in sports," Brnjac said.

"To further increase assistance for local sports programmes, under the new Sports Act we ensured co-funding for county sports associations, notably for professional staff and equipment for children and young people aged up to 18 years. For this purpose, we have allocated €3 million for 2023," she added.

The co-funded programmes aim to contribute to the development of sports, promote grassroots sports, health-enhancing physical exercise and the organisation of and participation in sporting competitions, as well as encourage non-swimmers to learn to swim.
